We are looking for an IT Director to take overall responsibility for information technology functions within two divisions of RWS Holdings Plc, namely RWS Patent Translation & Filing and RWS Patent Information. Reporting directly to the Divisional Managing Directors, you will oversee each Division's technology operations, including the development and implementation of new IT systems and policies as well as the management of a team of IT Managers and technicians. Your role is to ensure IT systems are effective and functioning within the limits of a pre-agreed budget and the specifications of the Company.

You must also interact effectively with other Divisional Managing Directors to ensure full cooperation and company cohesion in global IT strategies.

In addition, you will be responsible for the IT infrastructure within the UK units of the RWS Language Solutions' division and the RWS Group Head Office.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee technology operations and evaluate them according to established goals
  • Devise, establish and implement IT policies and systems to support the strategies and business objectives set by the Divisional Managing Directors
  • Keep abreast of global legislative changes to ensure RWS is compliant
  • Ensure market leading digital security standards are established and complied with at every level
  • Keep abreast of the latest technologies and industry trends and determine what new technology solutions will meet business and system requirements
  • Regular analysis of the business processes of all departments to determine their technology needs and develop IT strategies and plans to enhance client services, improve user effectiveness, and foster innovation
  • Purchase efficient and cost-effective technological equipment and software
  • Identify the need for upgrades, configurations or new IT systems and report to the Divisional Managing Directors
  • Involvement in the scoping, specifying and managing of large scale projects such as office relocations and major infrastructure system upgrades or changes
  • Manage and develop the IT team of 18 people, to meet the changing needs of users, groups and offices, new projects and technologies
  • Develop standard operating procedures and best practices, including providing written protocols and guidance to IT staff and end users
  • Ensure in-house staff are trained and updated regularly on the latest relevant technologies
  • In collaboration with the IT Managers generate and control the IT budget and report on expenditure
  • Review and benchmark suppliers, assist in building relationships and create cost-effective contracts
  • Manage facility operations of the Chalfont St Peter and London sites
  • Coordinate contractors, out-of-office technicians and other professional services requirements, SOW, costs, etc.
  • Liaise with partner companies to promote IT best practice
  • Work with the RWS Language Solutions' Managing Director to ensure IT infrastructure for UK units is at an acceptable standard
  • Liaise with other Divisional IT Directors to consider and formulate standardized IT strategies on issues that affect the RWS Group
  • Oversee the IT infrastructure and policies of RWS IP Services' operations in China, Japan, Australia and US

Skills and experience

  • Proven experience as IT director or similar role
  • Experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications
  • Sound understanding of computer systems (hardware/software), networks etc.
  • Experience in controlling information technology budget
  • Experience of working in global operations
